Dear Media Colleagues,
As you all know, Bishop-designate Michael Gerard Duca will be installed as the sixth Bishop of Baton Rouge on Friday, August 24, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in St. Joseph Cathedral, 412 North St, Baton Rouge.
The evening before, on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at 7:00 p.m., Bishop Duca will lead a prayer service at St. George Catholic Church, 7808 St. George Dr., (just off Siegen Lane), Baton Rouge.
Here are some basic details about these events and collateral activities. Media will be credentialed to cover all events that are open to the press. We’ll send you information at a later date giving instructions on how to request media credentials, coverage guidelines and information about parking for television trucks and vans.
Thursday, August 23, 6:00 p.m. – 6:45 p.m. — Meet and Greet by invitation only, Kleinpeter Activity Center, St. George Catholic Church. Open to the media.
Thursday, August 23, 7:00 p.m. — Evening Prayer Service, St. George Catholic Church. Open to the public. Open to the media. This event will also be streamed.
Thursday, August 23, at the conclusion of the Evening Prayer Service — Reception, Gymnasium, St. George Catholic Church. Open to the public. Open to the media.
Friday, August 24, 2:00 p.m. — Installation, St. Joseph Cathedral. By invitation only. Open to media but seating will be limited. Because of logistical challenges, we will not permit video cameras inside the cathedral during the installation, which will be streamed over at least four digital platforms. There will be a media room in St. Joseph Parish Hall with work areas, WiFi and a HD television. We will try to accommodate still photographers as best we can so as not to distract from the installation liturgy.
Friday, August 24, at the conclusion of the installation. Reception, Catholic Life Center, 1800 S. Acadian Thruway, Baton Rouge. Open to the public. Open to the media.
